Q&A with Jochen

Take the most interesting project you have worked on recently: Why was it interesting?

Advising on a complex cross-border M&A mandate involving powerful activist shareholders. These activists` actions forced us to react flexibly and adjust strategy and tactics again and again while not losing sight of the client`s overall long-term business objectives.

Describe yourself in three words.

Logical, Experienced, Flexible.

What is the area of expertise in which you really stand out?

Knowing and understanding the differences how communications work is seen in and outside of Japan and the ability to convincingly explain the need for home-grown thinking to the respective market and situation, be it in financial, crisis or any other area of corporate communications.

What do you enjoy most about working at CNC? How does working at CNC challenge you?

Working for different clients from completely different industries on any single day provides an intellectual challenge that I thoroughly enjoy. Being able to employ best practice from around the world while continuing to learn from the best in class is a real privilege.

How has the firm changed since you last joined?

Back in 2004, I joined a German firm with an outpost in Japan. Today, it has become really international with exciting clients, colleagues and projects from around the world offering a new challenge every day.

What is the most exciting city you’ve ever been to?

Tokyo – by a wide margin. The longer I live here and the more I discover the city below its polished surface, the more exciting it gets even after 25 years being here.
